What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are removable braces that are made from a durable, clear material. They work by gently adjusting your teeth into a new position. Every few weeks you will wear a new aligner that is shaped ever so slightly differently which allows you to make big changes over a short period of time.  To ensure you get the result you want, as quickly as possible, aligners should be worn for 22 hours per day, just removing them for eating and drinking.

When you’re wearing them, they are also almost completely invisible.

How long does treatment with clear aligners take?

Depending on the complexity of a case, the duration can be as short as 6 months!

Treatment Process

Smile Design – During your consultation, an intra-oral digital scan is taken of your mouth which will enable the lab to create a digital treatment plan and show you what your teeth will look like, before you have even started the treatment! The clear correct lab uses your scan to create a series of aligners that you will wear during your treatment.

The Fitting – On your first fitting of the aligners, your dentist may need to add small pieces of a white filling material on just a few teeth, to help guide the teeth during your treatment. Your dentist will provide you with additional instructions based on your unique treatment plan. From there, simply wear the aligners 22 hours a day. They’ll move your teeth little by little with each aligner, each day bringing you closer to the smile you deserve!

Review Appointments – You will routinely attend the dental clinic so that the dentist can check your progress before moving onto to newest aligners. At times, your dentist may use an instrument between some of your teeth to create space for teeth to move a little more, if needed.

Completion – Once your treatment is complete, you will need to maintain the new position by wearing a retainer. Luckily the retainer is very similar to the aligner itself and is worn at night time only to keep your teeth in the same position. Your dentist may recommend you have a fixed retainer fitted which sits permanently behind your upper and lower front teeth.

**For patients who have overly crowded teeth or are deemed a more complex case, fixed braces may be a more suitable option. Your dentist will discuss the best treatment option with you during your consultation.
