Do you find it difficult to eat your favourite foods, enjoy a steak or bite into a whole apple? Are your dentures loose or do you worry about them falling out?
Loose dentures can be a significant problem but you don’t need to compromise – Implant Retained Dentures offers a cost-effective solution for replacing a full set of teeth. They provide reliability and improved function over a traditional denture, allowing you to eat the foods you love without the worry of your teeth letting you down.
The solution for loose, ill-fitting dentures
What are Implant Retained Dentures?
An Implant Retained Denture is held securely in place by a small number of dental implants, with attachments placed on the denture meaning your denture can ‘lock’ into place. It is stable in function and can still be removed easily for cleaning. A retained denture removes the need for sticky temporary adhesive.
What are the benefits of Implant Retained Dentures?
Traditional dentures may be loose and ill-fitting, and even with denture adhesive the results can often be poor.
Implant Retained Dentures can offer a life-changing outcome giving you the confidence to speak, chew and laugh without having to worry about your denture letting you down. They are a cost effective way of replacing all of your missing teeth.
Other benefits include:
Maintain your bone structure following tooth loss.
Improve the appearance of your smile.
Provides a long term stable solution.
The Process
Consultation – You will attend your consultation with our dental surgeon who will examine your mouth and explain the options available to you. This appointment also includes x-rays, checks for gum disease, and an assessment of the strength of your jawbone to assess your suitability for this treatment. Afterwards, you will receive your treatment plan. This is a full and itemised breakdown of all the work you’ll need. You can then decide what treatment to go ahead with.
Implant placement – Dental Implant placement is a minor oral surgery procedure, performed under the same Local Anaesthesia used in routine dental treatments. Alternatively, we can provide the treatment using sedation if you are anxious about the appointment. The Implants are placed into the bone replicating the tooth root. If bone regeneration was planned at the consultation stage, then this is usually done at the same time as the Dental Implant placement. The area is then closed, and the implants are allowed to integrate. You will be provided with temporary teeth to wear throughout the process, so you are not left for any time without teeth.
Integration Stage – Dental Implants can take between 6 weeks and 3 months to integrate or ‘bond’ with the underlying bone. You should expect to feel little or no pain during this period. You can continue to wear your temporary teeth throughout this time. Good oral hygiene is important throughout the whole process.
Denture Making – Once the implants are integrated and tissues healed, the implants are ready to have the denture fitted over the top. We work with an experienced prosthodontic technical team specialising in making Implant Retained Dentures. The stages of constructing an Implant Retained Denture are similar to making a conventional denture, however, the Implant Retained Denture will ‘clip’ onto the dental implants. This will securely ‘lock’ the denture in place. This process can take between 3 and 6 weeks.
